About lymph edema
On the whole, lymph edema sometimes called milk arm is a plumbing problem. Generally, the lymph fluid is carried through the lymph vessels, passes through the lymph nodes, and gets dumped back into the bloodstream, near the heart. The lymph nodes perform like a strainer, removing foreign material and bacteria. So if you have surgery in the area and it scars over, some of the holes are blocked and the drainage can't work as efficiently. The fluid doesn't drain out as well as it needs to, and all backs up and swells. Protein leaks into the tissue and then scars causing the state to become chronic.

Lymph edema profits through stages. First is the latency stage where there is no swelling but as a consequence of surgery there is a reduced capacity for transporting lymph fluid. As long as there are no undue stresses on the scheme all will be well. The then step or stage I is reversible soft swelling. The skin is at a halt normal and the swelling can be relieved by elevating your arm. Stage II is no longer impulsively reversible because there are fibrous changes in the tissues making your arm feel hard. In this stage there are many infections which just exacerbate the situation. The final phase is lymph static elephantiasis this is an extreme increase in volume and texture with typical skin changes including deep skin folds.
