Swollen Face

Causes of swelling:
The swelling of the face may take place due to a number of factors which may be based upon a wide range of effects taking place internally within the body or the external effects which takes place in the environment. Obesity is a physical factor which may support the swelling of the facial part. Other reasons such as allergic reactions to some insect bite or insect sting, drug allergy and so on. There are also different types infections which may possibly account for the swelling
of the face, some of the common types are the dental and the sinus infections. It is also observed that in some cases facial swelling is the relative result of the swelling of some other body parts and is accompanied by diseases such as mumps, swollen parotid glands and cheeks etc.

Description of some of the common symptoms:
In the case of swelling by insect byte or sting, it is seen that the allergy is mainly due to the toxins present in the insect sting. Drug allergy, may show some common allergic symptoms such as skin rash, skin itching, and hives can be observed in the face or throughout the patient's body. Anaphylaxis is a severe form of life threatening allergic condition the swelling of the face may be accompanied by several other symptoms like breathing difficulties, tearing eyes, lowering of the blood pressure etc. In a number of occasions it has been observed that the swollen face may be the outcome of a dental infection or abscess of the tooth, gum, or a jawbone. In such a case fever and reddening of the gums may also be seen. Sinusitis as it is popularly known is another reason for the swelling of the face when infection or inflammation occurs in the sinus cavities behind the nose and the eyes due to common cold or cough.

Precautions and medical cures:
The swelling of the face due to allergic reactions may be prevented by effectively avoiding the allergens. Facial swelling results from the allergic reactions from an insect sting which are generally forms of melittin or arthropod poison can be cured by only medical treatment. In case of serious allergic reactions such as the anaphylaxis immediate medical attention should be sought after as it may possess serious threat to the patient's life by choking the breathing process. Treatment of facial swelling through sinusitis or infection can be cured by application of medicines like antibiotics for bacterial infection accompanied by antihistamines and analgesics as a pain reliever and decongestants to relieve nasal stuffiness.
