Swollen Hands

He hands are the locomotors of the human body which are used most extensively and goes the most of wear & tear, overuse etc. These reasons may give rise to the swelling of the hand along with pain, stiffness or numbness. The swelling may occur with a change in color as reddening or turning of the hand into pale blue. Sometimes the formation of a lump can be observed in the regions of the wrist, fingers or the lower portions of the hands.
Sometimes the swelling may be the outcome of a previous injury, in response to an infection or because of an under lying lump. Swelling can also occur when the circulation of the fluid does not take place in that particular region or part of the body.

Causes of Swelling and their brief description:
There are a number of factors both medical and physical which can promote the causes for a swelling in the hands in the adjacent areas. The medical factors mainly includes Carpal tunnel syndrome, Lymphadema, Hypothyroidism, Acromegaly and Gigantism. In women it may be the outcome of a premenstrual syndrome which may cause general puffiness or during pregnancy when general swelling in the hands may be seen. When the tendons or ligaments of the wrist become enlarged due to inflammation or after aggravation the outcome is Carpal tunnel syndrome. It results in a pinching feeling of the bones & ligaments due to a narrowed tunnel in the capillaries of the bones which may even reach up to the fingers & the muscle tissues located at the base of the thumb. He swelling of the hand caused by the lymphatic fluid retention is known as Lymphadema. Acromelagy is mainly due malfunction of the hormones which results in the excessive growth and sometimes swelling and inflammation of the hand and the wrist.

Medical cures:
Most of the factors which promote hand swelling are curable through medications as well through certain physical therapies also. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be cured through general surgery or endoscopic surgery as well as through by prescribed anti inflammatory drugs and by the action of injected corristones. Physical therapies can be effectively & efficiently implied for the cure of Lymphadema. Elevation and compression of the affected area and elastic supports, massage and exercises also helps efficiently in knocking of the swelling caused by Lymphadema.
