Swollen Labia -

Well, swollen labium is not an uncommon condition and is generally accompanied by itching, irritation and even pain during urination. There could be a number of causes for the swelling, but none of them serious to cause any major worry. It is most likely to be some form of allergy or dermatitis, and the most common cause of this in this area is a reaction to something you might have come in contact with. This thing could be any new underwear which has some synthetic fibers in it and they may have caused this reaction. A vaginal deodorant or spray, or even a bath shampoo of some sort can also cause the allergic reaction leading to swelling. This is a sensitive region and one must be very careful regarding what is coming in contact with it. Determining what might have caused this problem and avoiding it will solve the problem.

Swollen Labia in a Baby -

If a baby girl's genital area is swollen just after birth, the likely reason for it is the extra fluid newborns carry or the extra dose of hormones that she may have received from her mother just before birth. This swelling is harmless, and the baby will flush the fluid out during urination after a few days. If the swelling continues, the chances are that the baby has developed an inguinal hernia, in which a loop of her intestine pokes down into the labia, or, though such cases are rare, one of her ovaries might have migrated there and needs to be repositioned. However in most cases it should not be a cause of worry.
