Sometimes you can feel that there is enlargement in the neck gland or there might be a lump in the neck or around the neck. Commonly the swelling is not a cause of great concern because the neck can swell even if the person has a cold or sore throat. The glands in the neck which are perceptible to the swelling are tonsils, parotid glands, salivary glands, tear glands, and the thyroid gland.

As it is stated the neck gland is a very sensitive tissue in the body. The most common cause of the neck gland swelling is infection. There are a number of infections which can cause the neck gland swelling. Some of them are German measles or rubella, tuberculosis, ear infection, tonsillitis, gingivitis or gum swelling, hepatitis A and B. the neck gland can also sour because of the HIV virus. The neck gland swelling can also be caused by the leukemia or cancer.
If you are suffering from the swelling in the neck then you should not be much worried. The swelling normally takes two to four days to be healed depending on the cause. But if the neck gland do not go away or return to normal size over several weeks than this can be the cause of worry and you should consult your physician.
